AEC is now accepting applications for Leadership Academy 2018!
In an era of shrinking budgets and competing interests, we need strong voices advocating for the arts to remain a vital part of the learning experience for all students. Leadership Academy is a unique professional learning opportunity designed by and for arts educators with this goal in mind. It begins with a five-day summer intensive followed by in-person and online seminars to keep teachers’ energy up throughout the school year.
This year’s five-day summer session will take place from July 16-20 at Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area sites in Homestead, PA. Participants will work and learn with a small cohort of fellow educators toward the creation of an action plan for a leadership initiative to improve arts in their district or organization. Over 150 alumni have used their action plans to enhance programming, improve physical spaces for learners’ art-making, and even found new arts and cultural organizations in their communities.
Online fall sessions will enable participants to continue their learning without sacrificing valuable classroom time. In addition, one session on October 8 will consist of attendance of Regional Arts Education Day, a unique opportunity to network further with leaders in the field. Three more in-person sessions on January 22, April 11, and June 17, 2019, will enable Leadership Academy participants to reconnect and refine their learning.
Art, music, dance, physical education, theatre, and media arts educators from public and private schools, as well as educators working in museums and cultural organizations, are encouraged to apply. Registration is only $200, and districts will be reimbursed for release time during the school year. Participants can earn up to 90 Act 48 hours/Level II credits for their work.
