Reauthorization of the Elementary & Secondary Education Act

There is no doubt about it, education is a presidential priority. At a time when most government spending is ‘frozen’, President Obama proposes significant increases in discretionary spending for education in his fiscal year 2011 budget. Based on some of the questions that I raise in my article "Read the Signals, Interpret the Opportunities" (found at: http://artsedcollaborative.org/pages/read-the-signals), what do you think of the reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act?

What will our role as educators be in supporting, mentoring and encouraging young people to explore their talents and seek opportunities to prepare for careers in the innovative age?

What is our local and regional response to the narrow curriculum?

What are the options for promoting best practices in arts education?

What does the popular trend to rename No Child Left Behind signal to you?
